Pipers Way has been closed in both directions between its junction with Croft Road and the entrance to Nationwide since Friday October 2, after Thames Water began works that have left a substantial hole in the road surface to access pipes underneath. Online roadworks tracker Causeway one.network lists the closure as running until Wednesday October 7, although signage at the scene tells a slightly different story, with one sign on the Pipers Way side promising completion by October 5 and another on the Croft Road side holding out for October 6.

Despite a full road closure, a six foot sign, and a crater you could lose a Nationwide branch in, motorists keep turning up like it is a tourist attraction with a car park at the end.
